The Department of Health Policy and Management at Texas A&M University (TAMU) School of Public Health invites applications for a Department Head for Fall 2019 for a 9-month, faculty appointment at the Tenure-Track or Tenure on Arrival at the Associate or Professor level with a 12-month administrative supplement. This position requires tenure-eligible candidates with strong leadership skills and a record of innovation in education, research, and service that can build on strong educational programs, and a strong research faculty.
The Department is administratively located in the TAMU CEPH-accredited SPH and has 20 full-time faculty, a number of instructional adjunct faculty, and approximately 100 graduate students. Graduate programs housed in the Department include the CAHME-accredited Master of Health Administration, Master of Public Health, and Ph.D. in Health Service Research program. Department faculty also contribute instruction to the school-wide Bachelor of Science in Public Health.
The Department provides leadership to two Board of Regents approved centers: the HRSA-funded Southwest Rural Health Research Center and the NSF-funded Center for Health Organization Transformation along with programs in Disability Research & Community-Based Care, and Health Policy Research. The Department has close working relationships with other components of Texas A&M University.
Qualifications include a Ph.D. or equivalent degree from an accredited institution in public health or a related field such as administration, management, health services research, economics, law and policy, or medicine; demonstrated record of research and scholarly work in health services management and policy; previous academic administrative experience; and highly effective interpersonal skills. Additional qualifications include a record of mentoring faculty in research and teaching development; experience with innovative educational approaches and linkages to health organizations and/or state and federal agencies, and ties with major professional associations in health policy and management. Qualifications include a graduate degree in public health or public health experience.
Duties include providing direction, leadership, and carrying out administrative responsibilities for departmental faculty, staff, and graduate programs. As Department Head, other duties include managing departmental budgets, personnel management, and supervision of direct reports. The Department Head serves on the School of Public Health (SPH) Executive Committee, officiates department faculty meetings, represents the department in areas of research and academic endeavors, attends meetings, and maintains membership appropriate to the department disciplines.
The Department Head will maintain a research and teaching load that meets SPH expectations. Continuation of an active research program including collaboration with other faculty, a clear commitment to students, and promoting a professional and collegial environment is expected.
